Island Number 9
A 'low level' ACW scenario fought out using a set of rules from Practical Wargamer I think written by a Michigan wargamer called Steve Dake. They are a fun set, in any case. The scenario is from 'Battlefields' magazine, and features a Union amphibious assault on a Rebel held island in the Mississippi.
The view from the Union side as the marines approach the beaches. Some reb militia are visible to the right, and I think that is a Gatling gun on one of the boats. Beyond the wooded island are the mangrove swamps and then the bank of the river and a creek.
Here we see the view from the Confederate side as the commander leads a column up to try and cross the treacherous swamp (listen, I don't have any Mangrove trees, and I bet you don't either, that's why they look like fir trees). In the right foreground the paddle steamer is arriving with more reinforcements down the creek.
